"The Closer" to End After Next Season
NEW YORK (CBS/AP) TNT says its hit drama "The Closer" will be ending its run next year.
The network announced Friday that the detective series will end after a seventh season. Production of those final 15 episodes is scheduled to begin next spring.
The network said that the series' Emmy-winning star, Kyra Sedgwick, decided to conclude the show's successful run.
"I cannot fathom how difficult it will be to say goodbye to the incredible family we've created on 'The Closer,'" Sedgwick said in a statement. "I will always be grateful to [series creator] James Duff for his love and friendship, as well as for creating such a rich and complex character who I have loved living with year after year."
On "The Closer," Sedgwick plays Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson, a transplanted Atlantan with a sweet tooth and a gift for solving murders.
Currently airing its sixth season, "The Closer," which began in 2005, is averaging more than 8 million viewers weekly.
