The Best on the Net: The GII Awards


Honoring some of the best sites on the net.

They are some of the best examples of the promise of the world wide web. Sites that have been honored with the third annual Global Information Infrastructure or GII awards. Founder and Chairman Jim Hake says there are eleven categories in all...

"The GII Awards program recognizes the people across all industries and sectors of society who are using the Internet to create extraordinary results."

For instance, the best education site went to ThinkQuest. The best government site is run by the city of Indianapolis...

"The GII Government award winner is IndyGov, which provides online access to local government in Indianapolis. And the mayor of Indianapolis, Stephen Goldsmith, is a real pioneer in re-inventing government and in the last couple of years he has taken it to the net, as it were."
The site lets residents pay parking tickets online and chat with the mayor.

"One of the other interesting ones is in the health category and it's a project called OncoLink out of the University of Pennsylvania. And OncoLink reflects a very deep commitment to improving health and well-being throughout both America and the world."
