The Art Of Hanging

Rent-A-Husband founder Kaile Warren demonstrates on The Saturday Early Show the proper way of hanging light-weight, medium-weight and heavy objects on walls.

Kaile says any time you put too much weight on a nail, it will drop. He demonstrates the four different anchors that can be used to hang objects on your walls: light duty (picture frame), medium duty (towel or robe hanger), heavy duty (shelving) and concrete applications.

Light Duty

For hanging light objects from hollow walls, Kaile recommends a self-drilling E-Z Anchor. It will tap into drywall without the use of a drill. Its special design makes it as easy to install as a screw. The E-Z Anchor is a plastic shield that is threaded and can be screwed into the wall by using a number 2 Phillips screwdriver. Once the anchor is installed, you can insert a smaller screw into the center of the anchor, which will become the hanging point.

Nice features of this anchor: there is no need to drill, you can remove it simply by unscrewing it from the wall, and the anchors are reusable. For medium-weight objects, use a larger vresion of the E-Z Anchor.

Heavy Duty

For hanging heavy objects or for hanging objects from a ceiling, Kaile recommends using a self- drilling toggle bolt. This is a fairly new design and offers many benefits to the conventional toggle bolt. The bolt is self-tapping so there's no need for drilling. Its extra wide nut is concealed in the shaft until the anchor is in place. When you insert the screw, it will move the nut sideways so that it is running parallel with the wall or ceiling surface. This will disperse the weight against the wall or ceiling and provide a much stronger hold.

One other advantage is that you can completely remove the screw from the casing and not lose the nut off the end.

Hanging From Concrete or Stucco

For hanging light objects to solid surface such as concrete or stucco, Kaile recommends using the plastic shield. This shield will need to have a hole predrilled. Once the hole is drilled you can use a hammer and tap the shield into the wall. Once you insert the screw into the shield it will expand, giving you a solid anchor for light hanging.

The Tapcon

Kaile says for attaching a heavy object to a solid wall, there is no better device than the"Tapcon." The tapcon is a hardened screw that requires a predrilled hole. The great feature about this is that it will actually groove the material you are inserting it into, giving you the strongest anchor imaginable
