Texas Tech Center Ellis Breaks Wrist

Texas Tech center Andy Ellis has broken his right wrist, but could be back in time for the season opener.

The 6-foot-11 junior, who missed half of last season with a dislocated left shoulder, was hurt in an accident at his home.

Coach James Dickey said Ellis will miss five or six weeks of practice.

"We just want to be cautious with him and make sure he's ready for the season," Dickey said.

The Red Raiders, who open practice Saturday, start the season Nov. 22 at home against Prairie View. They have exhibition games Nov. 13 and 16.

Ellis averaged 16.9 points and a team-best 8.9 rebounds in 14 games as a sophomore. He averaged 9 points and 4.9 rebounds as a freshman.
