(CBS/AP) HOUSTON - Dylan Quick, the Texas man accused of stabbing more than a dozen people at a Houston-area college, was placed on suicide watch Thursday, and waived his appearance at a brief court hearing, his lawyer said.

Quick, 20, was to be arraigned on three counts of aggravated assault for the Tuesday attack at Lone Star Community College in Cypress.

But Quick's attorney, Jules Laird, waived the reading of the probable cause statement so his client would not have to appear in court. Laird said he didn't want a media circus.

Harris County authorities have reportedly said that Quick told them he fantasized about stabbing people for years.

Laird said he doesn't know enough about Quick's mental state to discuss it further. He added that he's still working to find out more about Quick's mental health history.
