Teresa Guidice of 'Real Housewives of New Jersey' sued over brawl in Dominican Republic
(CBS/WBBM/AP) NEW YORK - It sounds like the "Real Housewives of New Jersey" had a wild time in the Dominican Republic shooting their third season.
A Chicago family filed a lawsuit Monday in New York claiming that Teresa Guidice and several other cast members from the Bravo reality show attacked them during their Caribbean vacation.
Yolanda Martinez and her relatives say the brawl began when Guidice sprayed champagne into Martinez' eyes. Then, Guidice and three male cast members allegedly attacked Martinez's son-in-law and his cousin, Feb. 23 at the Hard Rock Hotel in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, reports CBS station WBBM.
"They just started punching me, beating me up," Martinez' son-in-law, Adolfo Arreola said. "They put me on the floor, they stomped on my face a couple of times. I was trying to cover my face."
According to the lawsuit, Arreola, and Arreola's cousin, Jason Gomez, quickly signed $25,000 settlements that also covered up to $12,000 in medical expenses. The suit says they only agreed because they wanted to get home and did not cash the checks.
Attorneys say that after the alleged attack Arreola and Gomez signed a release of claims under duress, reports WBBM. Allegedly the Hard Rock Hotel refused to call police and Arreola and Gomez's passports were confiscated and not returned until they signed.
The two men feared for their safety and needed to get back to their families and get medical care, attorneys said.
There was no comment about the lawsuit from the reality show production company or from the hotel.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.
