Teen shot dead during graduation party, report says

PITTSBURGH -- A 14-year-old was killed when he was shot while standing outside at a weekend graduation party in the East Hills neighborhood of Pittsburgh, CBS Pittsburgh reported.

The city medical examiner's office said 14-year-old Kelvin Lovelace of Wilkinsburg was with a group outside a housing complex when he got shot at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday. About 200 people were there, according to police.

A friend who did not want to be identified lives near the scene.

"My friend's 14-year-old son was shot at a graduation party," she said. "An 18-year-old kid shot into the crowd, hitting him in the back of the head."

Lovelace was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital following the shooting, where he later died, CBS Pittsburgh reported.

One resident told the station it's not the first time there's been trouble in the area.

"I got a 2-year-old son and a newborn due next month, so it's definitely frustrating to actually be in an environment, because I have to watch my child and really watch my child as he plays in the backyard," said one resident.

No one has been arrested. Police are reviewing video surveillance from cameras in the community.
