Teen girls seen on video attacking man, 61

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Police in upstate New York say they’ve arrested two teen girls in an attack on a 61-year-old man seen on a viral video, reports CBS affiliate WTVH.

Police say the assault happened last Wednesday in Syracuse when the victim asked a group of youths who had been sitting on his front yard not to sit on his property. Two girls, 14 and 15, then allegedly attacked the man, punching him twice in the head and face.

The suspects were later identified by police as local high school students. Cell video of the incident, recorded by a bystander and posted to Facebook, has gone viral on social media.

In the video, a teen girl is seen hitting the man, who then chases her down the street. Another teen girl is seen grabbing the man, who falls to the ground.

The victim told the station he suffered a bruised eye.

Speaking to WTVH, the mother of one of the teen girls apologized to the victim and said her daughter is accepting responsibility for the incident and is prepared to face the consequences.

The suspects aren’t being identified because of their age. They were charged as juveniles with third-degree assault and released to their parents on appearance tickets.
