Teen girl badly beaten during L.A. cell phone robbery, caught on tape

(CBS) LOS ANGELES - An unidentified man brutally beat and robbed an 18-year-old woman in the lobby of her Los Angeles apartment building. 

CBS Los Angeles reports police say a woman returning to her downtown apartment was attacked around 10 p.m. Sunday. A man approached the woman from behind, put her in a headlock and tried to grab her cell phone.

When she fought back, the man slammed her to the ground and punched her several times in the face and stomach, police said.

Authorities say that as the man walked away, the woman ran after him and tried to take her phone back. He turned around, punching her several times more in the face and then walked out the lobby door.

Surveillance cameras captured the vicious attack.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male between 25-35 years old, about 5 foot 5 inches tall and between 180 and 200 pounds. He wore jeans, a white T-shift and black shoes.
