Teen caught pretending to be a doctor at Fla. clinic

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Police say a teenager was caught pretending to be a doctor at a Florida OB/GYN office last week, according to CBS affiliate WPEC.

According to the incident report given to the station, staff members in an outpatient office at the St. Mary's Medical Center were told by a patient that a young boy was dressed as a doctor. The teen suspect had been dressed in a white lab coat and wore a stethoscope and a face mask.

The teen reportedly said that he had been a doctor for "years."

In a statement, the hospital told WPEC that the teenager did not have "contact with any hospital patients and did not gain access to any patient care areas of the hospital at any time."

"The hospital immediately notified local authorities, who took the individual into custody, and we are cooperating with their ongoing investigation," a spokesperson said. "The safety and security of patients is our highest priority."

The mother of the teenager told the station that her son is currently under the care of a doctor, but "refuses to take any medication."

The hospital met with staff and determined that no crimes were committed, according to the police report.
