Take your winter fashion into spring

Starting to stress about your spring wardrobe, and what it'll cost to buy new outfits?

Fret not - "Early Show" Style Contributor Katrina Szish hosted a fashion show Wednesday to demonstrate how to use winter staples already in your closet as a big part of stylish spring outfits - saving you a bundle.

The basics: a cardigan sweater, trousers, little black dress, ankle booties, and leather jacket:

Cardigan Sweater: We all have one, and we toss it over EVERYTHING to stay warm during the colder months, because we've all learned that it's all about layering. BUT, for spring, that cardigan can still see the light of day -- especially on chilly ones! -- even if it's a dark color. Play with the layering you've learned to love and pair your beloved cardie with a lightweight silk animal-print mini-dress. The proportion of the long sweater and shorter hemline is fresh and modern, and the shades of light brown that we used in all of (model) Marquina's accessories lightens up the look with a subtle modern safari vibe.

Aldo Rentas Cognac Cross Body Bag, $30, www.zappos.com

Chelsea Taylor leopard crystal cocktail ring, $118, www.chelseataylor.com

Trousers: You wore them about a gazillion times this winter with turtleneck sweaters and jackets. Give them new life by shedding the extra pieces and refreshing the look with a romantic, ruffled blouse. Add a belt for extra polish and banish the pumps for open-toe sandals. Add a dash of color with a well-chosen accessory.

Classic LBD: The little black dress can work all year round, but how make the one you already have in your closet look -- and feel! -- brand new for spring? It's as easy as adding bright, bold accessories.

Ankle Boots: The first thing most of us want to put into deep, DEEP storage come spring is BOOTS. But, hang onto those ankle boots, because they definitely work for transition weather -- AND they're on top of the hot trend list. Most important: SKIP THE TIGHTS -- yes, you can do bare legs. Let the rest of your outfit make the statement. Stripes are one of the BIGGEST trends on deck for spring, and this long-sleeved, nautical-inspired cotton dress is the perfect piece to wear with your basic black ankle boots. Add a crisp, white bag to keep thing springy.

A silky, feminine blouse and wide-leg jeans are an instant update for the perfect weekend look. Add an extra splash of color with a fun clutch.
