Suspect In Detroit Serial Rapes Heading To Trial

DETROIT (AP) - A man on parole for attempted murder has been ordered to trial in a series of Detroit rapes that began on New Year's Day and terrorized parts of the city.

A Michigan State Police scientist linked Raynard Coleman's DNA to the attacks. Judge Kenneth King also heard Friday from women who said they were victims.

King found probable cause to order trials for five rapes and an attempted rape. Coleman is charged with more than 30 crimes, including kidnapping and illegal use of a weapon.

Police say the women were attacked on Detroit's east and northeast sides in January. The 31-year-old Coleman was paroled in 2009 after serving 14 years in prison for attempted murder and other crimes.
