"Survivor: Blood vs. Water": Of bugs and brothers

There was plenty of action packed into Wednesday's episode of "Survivor: Blood vs. Water," with a disgusting food challenge and two different tribal councils.

Forcing castaways to eat gross things is a classic "Survivor" move, and it was the first immunity challenge of the episode. The competitors were split into two groups of five, with the first three of each group to finish going on to the next round.

First up on the menu -- 40 mealworms, so wriggly that some of them couldn't stay in the cup they were put in. Ugh. Tyson and Monica advance, as does Vytas, who had to pick a few of them off the ground after coughing them up and still eat them.

Then it's time for the other group of five. Gervase has not had good luck with this challenge in the past, and he starts jumping up and down and hitting himself in the head to psych himself up for what's to come. Ciera just spits hers out, and Tina soon gives up too. That leaves Hayden, Caleb and Gervase going to round two.

Monica and Gervase finish the second course -- pig intestines -- first, and go on to the final round: Grubs, the same kind that derailed Gervase when he first played the game. They gag and retch and almost make me need to cover my eyes and ears, but ultimately Monica finishes first and wins immunity.

At the first tribal council of the episode, Vytas gets the boot but not in the way it was initially planned -- afterwards, Moncia reveals she voted for him and not Katie, as she and the rest of the women had decided to do, because she was angry after he called her a doormat. This is a problem because it labels her unpredictable and puts her in jeopardy with her alliance.

The next immunity challenge is a balancing act -- each person had to balance a sword on a shield while stacking coins on top of the sword's handle with their other hand. When the stack falls, that person is out. Katie wins, leaving her mother, Tina, as the next target for ousting.

Back at camp, Tina tries to sneak away in hopes of finding the hidden immunity idol and sparing herself elimination. Some of the guys go tail her, including Tyson -- who has the immunity idol but doesn't want everyone else to know that. So, he goes and watches Tina as she tries to find the idol he already has in his possession.

Soon, we're at tribal council again. Tina tries to stir the pot by telling Monica her she's the bottom person in the alliance, but it doesn't change her fate -- she was voted out and sent to Redemption Island with the brothers.
