(CBS/AP) NEW YORK - NBC has announced the cast for its upcoming reality competition "Stars Earn Stripes," and it includes Sarah Palin's husband, Todd, retired boxing champion Laila Ali, actor Dean Cain and singer Nick Lachey.

The network added Tuesday that retired Army Gen. and former presidential candidate Wesley Clark will co-host the series with television personality Samantha Harris.

"I am thrilled to join 'Stars Earn Stripes' as host and look forward to watching the celebrity cast members test themselves as they step up to take on these tough challenges," Clark said in a statement. "This new series pays tribute to members of our dedicated armed forces and civil law enforcement and I know that the winnings, which will be donated to first-responder charity and veterans' groups, will make a difference and send an important message."

Actor and former NFL player Terry Crews ("The Expendables"), Olympic gold medalist Picabo Street. "The Biggest Loser" trainer Dolvett Quince and WWE star Eve Torres round out the cast list.

The eight competitors will convene at a remote training facility to tackle difficult missions inspired by real military exercises. Each competitor will be paired with a trainer who has been a member of the armed forces or a law enforcement agency.

Each team will play for a military or veterans charity. A team will be eliminated weekly.

"Stars Earn Stripes" premieres with a two-hour episode on Aug. 13.
