Stars 11-Gm Unbeaten Streak Alive


Brett Hull scored two power-play goals, giving him seven goals in seven games, as the Dallas Stars extended their unbeaten streak to 11 with a 4-2 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night.

Hull, with 13 points in his last 11 games, added an assist and Mike Modano had two assists for Dallas to reach the 300-assist plateau.

Jere Lehtinen and Jamie Langenbrunner also scored for Dallas, 8-0-3 in its last 11 games.

  • Roman Turek stopped 17 of 19 shots to extend his unbeaten streak to a career-best seven games (6-0-1).

    Eric Messier scored his first goal of the season and ended a 143:07 team drought at home without a goal and Claude Lemieux had a power-play goal for Colorado. The Avalanche last scored at home on Dec. 4 when Aaron Miller connected at 6:13 against St. Louis.

    Patrick Roy, who had not allowed more than three goals in his previous 19 starts, left the game with a sprained left knee after giving up Langenbrunner's goal at 4:53 of the third period. Roy will miss 7-to-10 days.

    Colorado led 1-0 after one period on Messier's goal at 4:20, in his first game back after missing two games with an eye injury. Turek turned aside a shot by Milan Hejduk, but Rene Corbet skated down the puck, centered it in front and Messier sent a shot through a pileup in front of the net past Turek.

    Roy made his two best saves in the period against Hull after a turnover by defenseman Greg de Vries and on Darryl Sydor trailing on a 3-on-2 rush. Peter Forsberg hit the crossbar for Colorado in the closing minutes of the period.

    Dallas used a pair of power-play goals to tie the game at 2-2 after two periods. Hll converted a pass from Modano into a wrist shot over Roy's right shoulder at 2:36.

    Lemieux deflected a shot off teammate Adam Deadmarsh's skate at 17:07, the first goal at home by a Colorado forward in 201:18 minutes. Lehtinen deflected a slap shot by Hull from the left circle past Roy at 18:20.

    Third-period goals by Hull, on a backhander past Roy at 2:09 with a man advantage, and Langenbrunner at 4:53 gave Dallas a two-goal lead.
