Stabbing reported at National Zoo

WASHINGTON - A stabbing has been reported at the National Zoo in Washington, which had been hosting an Easter celebration for black families.

D.C. fire department spokesman Pete Piringer says rescuers were called to Connecticut Avenue near the zoo for a stabbing late Monday afternoon. Medics found a teenage male with potentially life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a hospital.

A zoo spokeswoman says it's unclear where the stabbing occurred but there was a fight on the zoo's grounds. It wasn't clear whether any weapons were used. Zoo police escorted several people out.

The zoo remains open but is closed to new visitors because it's at capacity.

The zoo was hosting an Easter Monday celebration for black families. In 2000, there was a multiple shooting at the zoo during the same event.
