Split a Word Document to Show Two Different Sections on Screen at Once
I can't remember the last time I filled my monitor with a blank Word document and just started typing. It seems that I always need to reference something else, cross-edit two files, copy and paste between documents... my work day is always filled with at least two documents on screen at once. That's why I love the way you can snap two Word documents to opposite sides of the screen with Windows 7.
Sometimes that's not quite enough, though. There are times when I need to see two different parts of the same document at once -- and in situations like that, Windows 7 Snap is less useful. That's when Word itself comes to the rescue.
If you want to see two different sections of the same document on screen at once, use Word's Split feature. It's been around forever, but most people aren't aware of it, don't really know what it does, or just don't use it.
Try this: In Word 2010, click the View tab and then click Split. Click wherever you want the split to occur.
Now you have "split" the Word document into two sections. You can click and drag the split to make the top and bottom parts of the document relatively larger or smaller. You can scroll around and zoom independently in each section without affecting the other section -- handy to keep a particular part of the document open for reference while you work on a different part of the same file.
Don't forget, of course, that both sections are just different views of the same file.
When you're done, double-click the split line to eliminate it -- or click Remove Split in the ribbon. [via How-To Geek]
