Spenser Tillman

Tillman joined CBS Sports as lead studio analyst for COLLEGE FOOTBALL TODAY in 1999. This is his first year as reporter for CBS Sports’ coverage of NCAA tournament.

He served as sports anchor for WABC-TV New York (1997-99) and also spent 10 years as sports anchor for KPRC-TV Houston, Texas.

After being drafted by Houston Oilers in 1987, Tillman was employed by KPRC-TV in seven-month off-season as anchor/reporter. He played for Oilers for two seasons (1987-88) before being traded to San Francisco 49ers for three seasons (1989-91). He served as captain of 49ers in 1990. He was then was traded back to Houston, where he finished out career in 1994.

Football and broadcasting careers developed in tandem as he hosted two radio sports talk shows and was reporter/anchor for radio PM magazine in Oklahoma City prior to television jobs.

He was an All-American running back for Oklahoma University (1982-86) and captain of 1985 national championship team. He has been recipient of several awards throughout playing and broadcasting careers, including UPI Player of the Year of Big Eight Conference in 1982, 1983 Big Eight Football Newcomer of the Year, MVP of 1987 Orange Bowl and fifth in Heisman Trophy voting in 1983.

He earned bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1986 and bachelor’s degree in communications in 1988 from Oklahoma University

Tillman was born April 21, 1964 in Tulsa, Okla., and lives in Sugarland, Texas, with wife, Rita, and three daughters, Alisa, Blair and Mir.
