Special needs fifth-grader brings gun to his Fla. school
(CBS/AP) DORAL Fla. - An 11-year-old student brought a gun to school Friday morning at Jon I. Smith K-8 in Miami, according to CBS Miami.
The fifth-grader reportedly brought the firearm from home and word got to the classroom teacher. A Miami-Dade Schools spokesperson, John Schuster, said he doesn't know if the child displayed the gun in the class, reports the station.
School officials turned the case over to Miami-Dade police to take the boy into custody and retrieve the firearm. CBS Miami reports the boy is a "special needs" student.
Just a week ago, a 6th-grader was shot in the leg at a Southwest Miami Dade classroom after another student dropped a backpack with a gun inside that went off.
