Soccer Star Nixes Hollywood Role
David Beckham said he turned down a "good part" in a Hollywood movie on Monday.
"I've never said that I wanted to go into movies. I've been offered a couple of things like 'The Pink Panther,' but my football comes first," said the Real Madrid midfielder, referring to a role in a remake of the Peter Sellers classic.
"The Pink Panther," which is to be released next summer, will star Steve Martin as Inspector Clouseau, and Beyonce Knowles. It is to be set around the murder of a soccer coach, according to the movie's Web site.
Beckham denied reports that he might retire from international soccer after the next World Cup finals.
"Possibly it -- the 2006 -- could be my last World Cup, but I'm hoping it's not," the England captain said. "I want to carry on playing for England as much and as long as I can.
"It's one of the best honors I've been given," he added.
Beckham has never acted in a film, but was the muse to the 2002 movie "Bend It Like Beckham."
