Skype releases fix for text, chat bug
(CBS News) Skype released a statement explaining the rogue chat bug that send message to third-party contacts. The company will release a fix for the issue "over the next few days."

The company said the bug was caused by an error that occurs when the chat client crashes during a Skype session, in which case the last IM sent by a user would be sent to a different IM contact after the software is rebooted.
Skype is software that lets users make calls over the Internet, video chat and send instant messages. Last week, several users reported a bug that caused messages to be sent to contacts that were not related - creating awkward situations.
How many users were affected by the bug is uncertain, but the company released an updated statement and a list of affected chat clients and a "hotfix" for the issue.
Here's a list of chat clients that are affected:The hotfix addresses an issue that occurs only when a user's Skype client crashes during a Skype IM session, which may in some cases result in the last IM entered or sent prior to the crash being delivered to a different IM contact after the Skype client is rebooted or logged in as a new user.
During further investigation, we confirmed that not all Skype products were affected by this error as originally reported. We can assure that users of Skype 5.9 for Windows, Skype 2.8 for Android and Skype 4.0 for IOS have not been affected.
