Skyfire Browser Stomps Pocket Internet Explorer
Tired of the anemic Web browser built into most Windows Mobile phones? (Yeah, we're looking at you, Internet Explorer Mobile.) Skyfire promises a more PC-like browsing experience, complete with Flash, QuickTime, audio, and video.
Skyfire is a free browser for Windows Mobile and Symbian Series 60 phones. In addition to its fairly robust video capabilities (Hulu on the run, anyone?), Skyfire features a SuperBar that allows for URL entry and Web searching from the same field. Search results from both Google and Yahoo are presented in tabbed categories (Web, images, maps, etc.).
When you sign up for Skyfire's open beta, you'll receive an SMS on your phone with a link for downloading the program directly. In the meantime, watch the Skyfire demo video to see the browser in action. As someone still plugging along with Palm's Blazer, arguably the crappiest mobile browser around, I'm insanely jealous of what looks like a seriously decent browser for the WinMo crowd.
