Six injured in shooting at Philadelphia rec league basketball game

(CBS/KYW/AP) PHILADELPHIA - Six people were rushed to an area hospital after a shooting at a basketball game in southwest Philadelphia Monday evening, reports CBS station KYW.

It happened a little before 9 p.m. at the Kingsessing Recreational Center near 51st Street and Chester Avenue. Police said the gunman opened fire during halftime of an adult league game where nearly 500 people were watching.

One person is reportedly in critical condition.

Lt. John Walker of Southwest Detectives says five men and one woman were taken to the University of Pennsylvania Hospital. This is where one man hit in the stomach was in surgery but the others were stable with injuries to their lower extremities.

Walker said at least 11 shots were fired, and another person in the crowd may have returned fire. Police pursued a male who ditched a revolver before escaping, but that gun had not been fired.

According to KYW, no arrests have been made at this time and there is no word on a possible motive.

Philadelphia police continue to investigate this shooting.
