Six Dean College students expelled after video of Mass. student beating surfaces

(CBS) FRANKLIN, Mass. - Six Dean College students have been expelled after a video surfaced of a student getting beat up.

CBS Boston reports the incident took place on the campus in Franklin, Mass. on Friday. The video posted online shows a young man confronting another student, then punching and beating him to the ground. The victim is also then hit repeatedly with his own sneakers.

A group of men yell and laugh at the victim throughout the video. The injured man was treated for minor injuries and was back at school Tuesday.

Dean College Director of Communications Gregg Chalk said, "We're working with our own security folks, as well as Franklin police, to determine the cause of the events. It's an ongoing investigation."

Chalk said there is a zero tolerance policy relating to this violence and anybody that's involved will be dealt with strictly and swiftly.

Three others are going through a "judicial process" in connection to the incident to settle their status at the school.

Dean College president Paula Rooney said safety of members of their community has always been the first priority. "Dean has a zero tolerance for conduct that is detrimental to the safety and well-being of its students, faculty and staff," she said. "I know that are all deeply saddened by what has transpired."
