Siri to Scots: What the heck did you just say?

Ah, the lovely brogue of Scotland, redolent of ancient tales and misty landscapes. But when charming accent meets modern technology - in the form of Apple's Siri - this intersection of past and present has all the makings of a verbal donnybrook.

The LA Times has a nice writeup reporting that many Scots who bought the Siri after the iPhone 4S went on sale last October say that their new device can't understand them. "This is true despite the fact that their phones are set to "English (United Kingdom)" under the "language" setting for Siri, which doesn't seem to take the distinctive Scottish burr into much account," the Times notes.
