Shower, tv, taco all on the menu for burglar in No. Calif. home, say cops

(CBS) SONOMA COUNTY, Calif. - A hot shower, taco dinner, a little tv - relaxing night at home, or breaking and entering?

Authorities in Sonoma County, Calif. say a man who broke into a house there indeed made himself quite comfortable. Did we mention the chocolate chip cookies?

CBS San Francisco reports Jonathon Humphrey, 20, broke into the home Sunday after burglarizing a diner less than two blocks away.

While inside, police say Humphrey showered and put on the homeowner's clean gym shorts, a sweatshirt and slippers. That was before cooking up a taco, helping himself to some homemade cookies, and settling down on the living room couch to watch a movie - which he'd found in another room of the house.

A guest staying at the residence came home around 7:15 p.m. to find Humphrey watching the living room screen. The back door of the home had been kicked in and Humphrey reportedly told the guest he knew the homeowner, but the guest was unimpressed and called 911, said Sonoma County Sheriff's Sgt. Dave Thompson.

Earlier Sunday,. deputies responded to an alarm at a diner. Humphreys had allegedly forced the door open and took cash, Thompson said.

Officers found coins and cash they think were from the diner along with Humphrey's dirty clothes in a bathroom in the house. They say they were able to connect him to both burglaries thanks to the same muddy footprints found at both venues.

Humphrey was being held under $50,000 bail at the Sonoma County jail for commercial and residential burglary.
