A NOPD spokesperson reportedly said Shawn Peterson,41, came into the police headquarters and is now speaking with investigators.

A 39-year-old Christine George, her 20-year-old daughter Tresa George and 18-year-old son Leonard George were found dead inside the garage of a home in the Gentily section of New Orleans.

Police say they received a call indicating several people had been shot. All were pronounced dead on the scene.

The 39-year-old victim reportedly worked as a NOPD dispatcher.

According to The New Orleans Advocate, Peterson was identified by family member as the father of Leonard George.

The paper reports Peterson's rap sheet includes a second-degree murder charge for which he was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison. When he got out in 2008, he was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to the paper.

The investigation is ongoing.
