Shaniya Davis Autopsy Under Way, Police Hope to Learn How 5-Year-Old Died

NEW YORK (CBS/AP) The autopsy of murdered North Carolina 5-year-old Shaniya Davis is now under way, according to Fayatteville, N.C., police, who hope to determine exactly how the little girl died.

Searchers discovered the girl's body Monday, nearly a week after her mother reported her missing from a mobile home park in Fayetteville, about 40 minutes south west of Raleigh.

Police believe Shaniya Davis was sold into sexual servitude by her mother, Antoinette Davis, who has since been charged with human trafficking and felony child abuse. Antoinette Davis' sister, Brenda Davis, has said she does not believe the charges and argued that Antoinette would not hurt her children.

Also charged in the case is Mario Andrette McNeill, 29, who was accused of kidnapping Shaniya after surveillance footage from a Sanford hotel showed him carrying the girl. Authorities said McNeill admitted taking the girl, though his attorney said he will plead not guilty.

Fayetteville police said Tuesday that additional charges will be filed in the case, though they did not offer more specifics. Thus far, no one has been charged with Shaniya's murder.
