Seniors Take Three-Tour Title


Tom Watson, the eight-time major winner who turned 50 in September, led the Senior PGA Tour team to victory Tuesday in the Wendy's Three-Tour championship.

Watson led all players with 25 of his team's 63.5 points in the made-for-television event at the Reflection Bay golf course.

Hale Irwin added 20 points, and Jack Nicklaus rounded out the three-man senior team with 18.5 points.

Justin Leonard's 18 points led the PGA Tour team to a second- place finish with 50 points. Lee Janzen had 16.5 points, and Tom Lehman 15.5 for the regular-tour players.

The LPGA Tour team finished last with 48.5 points. Karrie Webb and Juli Inkster both had 17.5 points, and Dottie Pepper had 13.5.

Under the event scoring system, the winner of each hole out of threesomes consisting of one member of each tour got two points, while one point was given for second

Each member of the winning team got $100,000, while second place paid $67,000, and third place $50,000.

The 18-hole event airs Dec. 18-19 on ABC.
