Senators Go After Lobbying Loophole

Lobbyists just can’t catch a break this presidential election.

In what seems to be a swipe at presumptive GOP nominee Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), two Democratic senators today introduced legislation to require lobbyists for foreign entities to register with the Justice Department.

The release from Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) says the issue first surfaced in news reports that top aides to the McCain campaign worked for a firm, Virginia-baed Davis Manafort, that lobbied on behalf of a Ukraine politician but never disclosed the work.

McCain's opponent, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), is a co-sponsor of the legislation.
