Senate Will Begin August Receess A Week Earlier Than Planned
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) informed his fellow Democrats today that he is planning to begin the August recess a week earlier than originally planned.
Reid now wants to adjourn by Friday, Aug. 1, if possible, although he cautioned his colleagues that the Senate may be in session on that weekend, Aug. 2-3, if Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) won't release his holds on a series of bills that he has blocked debate on, according to Democratic aides.
Reid had planned to keep the Senate in until Aug. 8, but is now adjusting the floor schedule, giving senators up for re-election more time at home to campaign.
