Senate Judiciary Committee Passes Habeus Bill On Foreign Terrorism Suspects
The Senate Judiciary Committee approved a bill that would grant foreign terrorism suspects the right to challenge their detentions by a vote of 11-8 this morning. Passage of the measure sets up yet another confrontation between Democrats and the White House over President Bush’s handling of the "War on Terror," reports Politico's Dan Reilly.
Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.), a co-sponsor of the bill and the ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, was the only Republican to vote for the measure.
