Senate GOP Introduces Health Care Repeal Amendment
Updated 5:54 p.m. Eastern Time
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has introduced a measure to repeal the health care reform law. The repeal measure will be in the form of an amendment to the Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill now being considered by the Senate.
Democrats will likely vote on the amendment Wednesday, CBS News Capitol Hill Producer John Nolen reports.
McConnell has vowed to force a vote on health care reform repeal -- despite the fact that Democrats control the Senate by a 53-47 vote margin. Republicans campaigned in the midterm elections on a promise to "repeal and replace" the law, and the GOP-led House has already passed a repeal measure. In addition, every Senate Republicans has cosponsored a repeal bill.
Yet there remains little chance of a repeal bill reaching the president's desk. Republicans would have to win over 13 Senate Democrats to overcome a filibuster of any repeal measure, a near-impossibility.
