Sen. John Sununu Polling At 29 Percent Against Shaheen

Sen. John Sununu (R-N.H.) is looking like the Senate’s most vulnerable incumbent by a large margin, according to a new poll released today.

Former New Hampshire governor Jeanne Shaheen (D) leads Sununu 57 to 29 percent in a head-to-head matchup. She leads among independent voters by 25 points. Even 30 percent of Republicans said they would vote for Shaheen.

The poll, conducted by the American Research Group, surveyed 553 New Hampshire voters between June 23-26. It has a margin of error of 4.2 percent.

Will the favorable numbers persuade Shaheen to jump in the race? She has a cushy job as the director of Harvard’s Institute of Politics, and had previously been resistant to running for the Senate. But former New Hampshire party chair Kathy Sullivan has begun a "Draft Shaheen" campaign, and Shaheen has said she will make up her mind in September.
