Selanne, Ducks Pound Canucks

Teemu Selanne scored two power-play goals and Paul Kariya added a penalty-shot goal to lead the Anaheim Mighty Ducks to a 5-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night.

Marty McInnis scored a third power-play goal for Anaheim and Travis Green ended a 17-game scoreless drought. Goaltender Guy Hebert, playing in his 350th NHL game, made 25 saves in recording his 22nd win of the season.

Adrian Aucoin scored for the Canucks, who lost their third straight. Aucoin's goal at 3:00 of the third period ended a scoreless drought of 137 minutes and 12 seconds for the slumping Canucks.

The victory was the Mighty Ducks' fifth in their last six road games. The Canucks, who have been outscored 17-2 in their last three games, remained nine points out of a playoff position.

Anaheim led 1-0 after the first period when Anaheim's dynamic duo broke the game open. Selanne scored his 30th goal at 2:40 of the second period while Jamie Huscroft was in the penalty box serving a cross-checking penalty.

Selanne made it 3-0 at 7:03 with his 31st goal and league-leading 17th on the power play. The goals extended Selanne's point streak to 10 games. He has 41 points in his last 25 games.

A sell-out crowd of 18,422 fans at GM Place witnessed the 18th penalty shot of the NHL season at 19:19 of the second period. Referee Paul Devorski awarded Kariya the penalty shot after he was hauled down on a short-handed breakaway by Vancouver defenseman Bryan McCabe.

Kariya skated directly at Canucks goaltender Corey Hirsch before calmly flipping the puck into the net for his 25th goal of the season.

It was the eighth penalty-shot goal this season in the NHL. Kariya is two-for-two in his career.

The Canucks scored their only goal at 3:00 of the third period. Aucoin converted a pass from Dave Gagner with a hard wrist shot from the faceoff circle for his 14th goal of the season and 10th on the power play.

McInnis completed the scoring at 5:48 when he tipped a slap shot from the point by Fredrik Olausson. It was his 17th goal.
