Second Cup Café: The Ben Taylor Band

Ben Taylor got his start by being born to superstar folk singers James Taylor and Carly Simon. Now, he takes a step forward, creating his own musical identity by singing and playing acoustic guitar for the Ben Taylor Band.

The band makes its TV network debut on The Saturday Early Show's Second Cup Café. The band performs several songs from their debut CD, "Famous Among the Barns."

With the exception of Taylor, the band members are seasoned sidemen who've backed Alanis Morissette, Fiona Apple, and Macy Gray, among others. "Famous Among the Barns" is the 25-year-old Taylor's first released album. His music is heavily influenced by folk, rock, pop, and a hint of hip-hop. It tackles subjects such as family history, broken hearts and social problems.

Taylor didn't originally set his sights on a music career. He traveled extensively around the globe. On his trips, he developed a love for nature, and at one point thought of being an organic gardener. Ultimately, he gained life experiences that now contribute to his writing.

The rest of the band is composed of Joel Shearer, guitars; Chris Chaney, acoustic and electric bass; Larry Ciancia, drums; Adam MacDougall, keyboards; Zac Rae, keyboards, vibraphone and guitar; and Nick Lashley, guitars.
