Second Cup Cafe: Cyndi Lauper

Cyndi Lauper is one girl who certainly knows how to have fun. In a career that spans more than 25 years, the multi-talented singer-actress has sold more than 20 million albums, had eight top 10 singles and even won an Emmy for her role on "Mad About You."

And the fun doesn't stop there. Lauper has just released a new concert DVD, "Live At Last," and this weekend, she will drop by The Saturday Early Show's Second Cup Café to welcome the Yuletide with a few songs from her holiday album, "Merry Christmas… Have A Nice Life!"

Lauper is up for a Grammy this year, in the category of Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist. The winner will be announced Feb. 13, 2005.

Lauper is married and has a 7-year-old son.

Some career highlights include:

  • First artist to have five top 10 singles from a debut album
  • First female artist to write, produce, create artwork, create and direct all music videos for an album
  • Grammy Award winner, an American Music Award winner, as well as an MTV Music Video Award winner
  • Lauper has been twice nominated for the Emmy Award, and has won once.
  • Her recent tour with Cher was the most successful tour of 2003.
  • For more than 25 years, Lauper has been a devoted advocate for Aids Research, AMFAR, as well as GAY communities all over the world. In addition, she supports women's rights and Planned Parenthood.
  • More than 15 artists, including the late Miles Davis, have covered her classic, "Time After Time."
  • Most recently, Lauper composed the music for the independent film, "Private Property" as well as the title song for Nick Cassavete's indie hit, "Unhook The Stars."
