Schmidt Wins

Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Ohio) has prevailed in the GOP primary against state Rep. Tom Brinkman, according to the Associated Press.

With 47 percent of precincts reporting, Schmidt led Brinkman by a 62 to 35 percent margin. It appears she will face physician Victoria Wulsin, her 2006 opponent, in the general election.  Wulsin held a comfortable lead in the Democratic primary.

Schmidt has faced tough primary challenges since she was first elected, but her best-funded opponent, former Hamilton County commissioner Phil Heimlich, withdrew from the GOP field in January.
