A statement issued by city's authorities Wednesday said the city was grateful to Jolie for preserving the "truth about the war" in Bosnia, through her movie, which was released late last year.

The spokeswoman for the Sarajevo Canton, Lamija Bojadzic, said Wednesday it was not yet clear whether Jolie will attend a May 3 ceremony in Sarajevo.

The movie was dogged by controversy from the start. Jolie was denied permission to film in Bosnia until the government approved her script. Then, on the eve of its opening, the head of a group of Serbs held prisoner during Bosnia's 1992-1995 war called for the movie to be banned in the Serb-run part of the country
