Woman dies after falling off cliff at San Francisco's Fort Funston

SAN FRANCISCO -- Officials are investigating the death of a young woman who fell from a cliff at Fort Funston on Thursday, CBS San Francisco reports.

San Francisco Fire Dept. Lt. Jonathan Baxter says his department got a 911 call around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. He said the woman fell about 300 feet.

The woman was at a hang-gliding viewing platform, which has a safety barrier, but she was standing off to the side of it.

"Cliffs anywhere are going to be dangerous and that's why your San Francisco Fire continuously puts out cliff- and surf-rescue warnings which we did today as well. If you're going to be in the area, you need to stay away from the cliffs," Baxter told CBS San Francisco.

The identity of the woman has not yet been released.
