Saint Louis Upsets No.13 Kansas

A subdued and frustrated Roy Williams said he will need a few days to get over the ambush Saint Louis sprang on No. 13 Kansas Wednesday night.

"Right now, people will think we're a little wounded, and perhaps we are," Williams said after the Billikens shocked the Jayhawks 78-64. "(But) like the sharks, you smell that blood and it makes you want to go a little bit harder."

The Jayhawks (8-3) shot 25 percent from the field in the first half before a Kiel Center record crowd of 22,527 and trailed the fired-up Billikens 34-20 at halftime. Kansas was 0-for-10 from 3-point range in the first half.

Forum: Can Saint Louis go far in the postseason?

"The chances of them going 0-for-10 again are not very good," deadpanned Saint Louis coach Charlie Spoonhour. "The ball just didn't go down for them."

Justin Love, a 6-foot-2 junior college transfer playing in just his fourth game for the Billikens (6-5), scored 24 points in only 17 minutes. Love, who had scored a total of 18 points in his previous three games, was 7-of-10 from the field, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range.

"Today I made a little difference ," Love said. "I'm still getting there. I'm probably not there yet."

The game marked the first collegiate meeting of St. Louis natives and brothers, Ryan Robertson of Kansas and Troy Robertson of Saint Louis.

"If anyone had to beat me, I wish it was not him," Ryan said. "But at the same time I'm happy for him. I know it was a big win for the program."

Added Troy: "They respect us and I respect them. As far as between Ryan and me, it's still 100 percent love."

Before the ame, the brothers told each other to be as aggressive as possible and play really hard. Afterward, "I told him to keep his head up," Troy said. "I told him that next time those shots will fall."

Ryan, a starter, finished with 13 points on 4-for-15 shooting.

Troy, a reserve, scored eight points.

The Robertsons went to high school at nearby St. Charles West.

Nick Bradford led the Jayhawks with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Ryan Luechtefeld added 14 points for Saint Louis.

Kansas shot 36 percent for the game and committed 24 turnovers.

"Saint Louis played the best defense we've faced all year," Ryan Robertson said.
