Murphy is still smarting after the band months ago denied the show's request to use their hit "Use Somebody" in an episode, according to the entertainment magazine.
Murphy called the band "self-centered assholes" who "missed the big picture," suggesting to The Hollywood Reporter that his show makes children want to learn how to play music and sing.
How do the Kings of Leon, themselves, feel about the controversy?
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, lead singer Calen Followill called it a "shock" and said that "[i]t's gotten out of hand." Followill explains that when the band received the request they "were over promoting" the song and the denial was "was never meant as a slap in the face to Glee or to music education or to fans of the show."
"We just said no to a license for a TV show," Followill said, "which we do a lot."
