New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani said in a television interview he is looking forward to life after City Hall and wants to start his own business.

"Whatever I do, I'm going to try to establish something of my own, and then maybe have partners," Giuliani said during an interview with Barbara Walters to be aired Wednesday on ABC News' "20/20." The network released a transcript of the interview Tuesday.

Asked what kind of company he planned to start, Giuliani said: "I don't know yet. I'm still working on it."

The mayor said he looked forward to becoming a private citizen Jan. 1, when Michael Bloomberg will be sworn in to office.

"I hope I say this in the right way: I feel like I've done everything I can do for the city. I've given the city everything that I've got. ... And maybe of having gone through all the death and all the pain of September 11th and the aftermath of it all, you put life in perspective."

The interview took place over several weeks at the World Trade Center site and in the mayor's office in City Hall.

Giuliani said he did not see himself running for mayor again, but did not rule it out.

"I cannot imagine it," he said. "But I haven't discarded the possibility. ... I've learned a long time ago that I don't cross off options."

He also isn't interested in any jobs with the Bush administration.

"I don't want to be in government right now," he said. "I would love to go back to government, but later on. I would like to have a substantial period of time in private life."
