(CBS) Ron Artest wants to change his name - to Metta World Peace.

The Los Angeles Lakers small forward filed a petition in Los Angeles Superior Court Thursday to officially change his name, according to TMZ.

"Metta," in case you were wondering, is defined as "the Buddhist virtue of kindness."

Name changes are usually granted by a judge, TMZ reports, unless the change would result in confusion or fraud.

The website also reports that Artest wants to put his new last name, "Peace," on his Lakers jersey.
