Romney's Spring Goal: Name ID
Mitt Romney's objective this spring is to emerge from the Republican presidential field as "the idea-based candidate who can win on substance," a senior Romney adviser told U.S. News.
To do that, the former Massachusetts governor will try to get as much attention as possible for his conservative stands on issues, ranging from supporting the Iraq war to his belief in cutting taxes.
Romney aides are somewhat frustrated that the former Massachusetts governor isn't better known, which they say partially explains why he is so far behind Rudy Giuliani and John McCain in national polls.
Giuliani and McCain have "universal name identification," the adviser says. "We want to do all we can to raise Governor Romney's name ID."
