Resilient Specter Vows To Overcome Latest "bump In The Road"

Having survived a brain tumor, near fatal heart bypass surgery and an earlier bout with Hodgkin’s disease, Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) said Wednesday the recurrence of his cancer will not keep him from seeking re-election in 2010.

“I consider this just another bump in the road,” he told reporters at a news conference. “I have had lots of bumps, but I must have some good shock absorbers.”

Specter announced on Tuesday that a routine scan had detected a recurrence of Hodgkin’s disease, a cancer of the lymph nodes.

The top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Specter is battling Hodgkin’s again as judicial nominees are again a percolating issue and rumors are swirling that NBC media personality Chris Matthews might challenge the senator in 2010.
