A Suffolk County Police Department spokeswoman denied previously published reports that officers had found human remains in today's search on Long Island.

She said police would not comment on whether they found clothing.

"We wanted to re-search the area because of good weather conditions and low tide," said the spokeswoman.

Gilbert, who was working as an escort, was last seen running from a house near Oak Beach in May 2010.

It was the search for Gilbert that led police to discover the remains of 10 other people strewn along a stretch of remote beach on southern Long Island.

Police said last week that they believe all 10 victims were murdered by one serial killer. The oldest remains are linked to a 15-year-old case.
