Report: NYPD officer who exposed ticket-fixing to be promoted
(CBS) NEW YORK - The NYPD officer whose undercover work led to the exposure of a massive ticket-fixing scandal will be promoted in a secret ceremony Wednesday, reports the New York Post.
The officer, whose name has not been released, will get a pat on the back from Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, who will reportedly attend the ceremony.
According to the Post's sources, the officer - a former barber - helped uncover the corruption by infiltrating the barber shop frequented by allegedly crooked cop Jose Ramos. Ramos was suspected of ties with a Bronx drug dealer and the investigation into his illegal activities led to a widespread probe which ended in last week's indictment of 16 officers.
The officers were charged with crimes including official misconduct and conspiracy, and most were reportedly released on their own recognizance. Ramos, who is accused of far-reaching crimes including attempted grand larceny and attempted heroin possession, is being held on $500,000 bail.
