Report: Gunman killed ex-wife, another man at Ill. sports bar

EAST PEORIA, Ill. - Authorities in East Peoria said a man fatally shot his ex-wife and another man before being killed by an off-duty law enforcement officer on Saturday night. The incident occurred at a sports bar where the victims and others were celebrating a 15-year high school reunion.

The Peoria Journal Star reports that 40-year-old Jason A. Moore of Creve Coeur, Ill., walked into The Fifth Quarter Bar and Pizzeria Saturday night and opened fire. Lori A. Moore, 36, of Morton and Lance E. Griffel, 36, of Peoria were pronounced dead after the shooting at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center later that night.

Many in the bar were attending a reunion of the East Peoria High School class of 1999, and police say more than 100 witnesses provided information.

Police would not identify the off-duty officer who shot and killed Jason Moore or where the officer worked.

"You can play the 'what if' game over and over again," East Peoria Police Chief Dick Ganschow told the Journal Star. "But I think it's pretty clear... the presence of this officer and his ability to take very quick and very decisive action prevented a further tragedy."

Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll said the victims sustained apparent gunshot wounds to the head. He told the paper autopsies were scheduled for Monday. Ganschow said the investigation is ongoing.
