(CBS) "Dexter" is a killer hit this season. The season six premiere brought in the show's biggest opener: 2.2 million viewers, an increase of 24 percent over last year.

But Deadline is reporting contract negotiations between star Michael C. Hall and Showtime have hit an impasse.

According to the website, Hall's contract expires after the current season. Showtime is offering the actor $20 million for the next two seasons, but Hall's team is asking for $24 million.

Deadline adds the same sources said Showtime is willing to sign Hall to one season instead of two in order to make concessions.
